The post quickly gained traction, prompting Zomato chief Deepinder Goyal to comment under the post, “This is absolutely stupid on our part. I am super sorry for this. This charge will be removed today itself.”
He added, “Will also fix what’s needed to fix in the team so that such s**t doesn’t happen again. Thank you for pointing this out.”
Under the veg mode options, users are able to filter restaurants that only serve vegetarian food.

Last year, Zomato rebranded its ‘pure veg’ mode as ‘veg only’ and scrapped plans to introduce a separate colour-coded fleet exclusively for vegetarian food deliveries. The decision followed a similar online backlash over concerns related to community and caste-based discrimination.
Meanwhile, Zomato and its rival Swiggy are under scrutiny as the country’s leading restaurateurs’ body, the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) is considering moving the Competition Commission of India (CCI) against Zomato and Swiggy’s new standalone apps for 10-minute food delivery, as reported by ET.
Zomato-owned Blinkit and Swiggy recently launched standalone apps, Bistro and Snacc, respectively, to cater to the 10-minute food delivery segment.
