Over time, the expansion vessel will lose its pressure and need to be charged to operate the boiler.
The expansion vessel is a very important part of the annual boiler service and needs to be modified. Once the container loses its charge, it exerts pressure on the pump, internal water components and all O-rings in the boiler.
Have you noticed that when the boiler is running, the meter installed in the boiler or external pipe starts to rise, and then when the boiler cools, the pressure drops to zero? You may even notice that the drain or overflow tube (as some have said) shows signs of drainage. If this is the case, it usually indicates that the expansion vessel has lost its charge.
This ensures that the boiler burns as expected. For this purpose, a flue gas analyzer inserted into the combustion line is used. If the readings follow the boiler recommendations, no further action is required, but if the readings do not meet the recommendations, further research is required to find the problem.
For the old boiler type, the burner has been removed and the flue has been cleaned and inspected, but for the condensing boiler, the flue gas reading tells us when it is necessary to remove the burner. In fact, the Vaillant boiler now says that if the boiler is properly configured and maintained, once they recommend dismantling the burner every five years, the burner should not be removed.
