SC stays GST notices on gaming firms till final decision on matter

The Supreme Court on Friday stayed proceedings under show cause notices worth Rs 1.12 lakh crore issued to online gaming companies by the goods and services tax (GST) authorities — until the matter is fully heard and decided upon by the apex court.

The two judge bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice R Mahadevan has listed the matter for further hearing in March.

This comes as a relief for online gaming companies including Gameskraft, Games 24×7 and others as the GST authorities won’t be allowed to demand the tax amount from the firms till the Supreme Court’s final orders.
