Satya Nadella definitely has the money: Musk continues attack on Stargate project

Billionaire Elon Musk expressed confidence that Microsoft chief executive officer (CEO) Satya Nadella “definitely has the money” to invest in the $500 billion artificial intelligence (AI) project by the Donald Trump administration. This comes a day after Musk said SoftBank and OpenAI, who committed to deploying $100 billion in the project right away, “don’t have any money”.

In an interview with CNBC, Nadella commented on the tech titans’ social media banter: “All I know is: I am good for my $80 billion.”

Reposting a video of the interview, Musk wrote, “On the other hand, Satya definitely does have the money.”

Nadella responded to his comment on X, saying, “And all this money is not about hyping AI, but is about building useful things for the real world!”

The Stargate project is a $500 billion initiative to build AI infrastructure across the US, with Masayoshi Son taking the role of chairman. The investment brings an alliance of major tech companies, with SoftBank and OpenAI as the lead partners. SoftBank will oversee the financials, while OpenAI will handle operations. Additionally, Oracle and MGX have joined as equity investors.

When OpenAI made the announcement on X, Musk replied to the post, “They don’t actually have the money.” He also claimed that SoftBank has “well under $10B secured.”
Replying to this, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, responded, “Wrong, as you surely know. Want to come visit the first site already underway? This is great for the country. I realise what is great for the country isn’t always what’s optimal for your companies, but in your new role, I hope you’ll mostly put the US first.”
The buildout for the project is currently underway, starting in Texas, and OpenAI said they are evaluating potential sites across the US for more campuses.
