Ola Electric: Government orders probe into complaints against Ola Electric’s products, services

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has ordered a detailed investigation into complaints related to deficiencies in service and products by Ola Electric.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, under which the CCPA operates, has asked the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to look into the complaints received on the National Consumer Helpline (NCH).

BIS is India’s product certification agency which has set several standards related to electric vehicles (EVs).

Nidhi Khare, secretary of consumer affairs, has asked BIS to investigate the matter and submit a report within 15 days.

The move came after the CCPA initiated action after it received 10,644 complaints on NCH against Ola Electric during the period from September 1, 2023, to August 31, 2024.


Last month, the consumer watchdog sent Ola Electric a notice seeking an explanation about the large number of complaints it received about deficiency in products and services.

The homegrown e-scooter maker responded that it had resolved 99.1% of the complaints.Ola is facing significant scrutiny regarding its after-sales service. Recently, comedian Kunal Kamra who has been vocal about the company’s customer service issues, shared complaints from dissatisfied customers and criticised Ola’s response to repair delays.

Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal recently announced that the company’s highly anticipated electric motorcycle is set to launch soon.

In a tweet, Aggarwal shared updates from his visit to Ola’s manufacturing facilities, including the Futurefactory, where the motorcycle will be produced, and the Gigafactory, which is preparing for commercial battery production.
