US IT engineering services provider EPAM Systems hired more than 2,000 employees in India so far this calendar year, expanding the local workforce to more than 9,000, said a senior executive.

Jason Peterson, chief financial officer, senior vice president and treasurer, EPAM, told ET the company’s employee strength in India will reach the 10,000 mark by early 2025, reflecting a tenfold surge in its India headcount in a decade. EPAM entered the Indian market through the acquisition of Alliance Global Services in 2015. At the time, Alliance Global had about 1,000 people in Hyderabad. EPAM India currently has centres in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune and Gurugram. As per its 2023 annual report, EPAM India had 7,050 employees as of December-end. At the same time, its Ukraine centre, the firm’s largest delivery centre, had a headcount of 9,113.

Peterson said while the Ukraine delivery centre is stable but productive, India is seeing significant growth. In its 2023 annual report, EPAM said: “The attack on Ukraine and its people by Russian forces beginning on February 24, 2022 shifted the way we operate in this and other locations.”

“In response to the war in Ukraine, we continue to execute our business continuity plans and have sustained our hiring efforts across multiple locations in Central and Eastern Europe, Central and Western Asia, India, and Latin America,” it said.
