Apple’s eagerly awaited event, scheduled for September 9 at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, promises to introduce the latest iPhone 16 series along with several other exciting product announcements. As part of its tradition, Apple is expected to phase out older devices to make way for its new lineup. Here’s a detailed look at the six Apple products likely to be discontinued following the iPhone 16 launch.

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max

According to MacRumors, Apple may discontinue the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max after unveiling the iPhone 16 series. These models are currently the only ones capable of running Apple’s advanced AI features. By discontinuing them, Apple aims to encourage users to upgrade to the latest iPhones to access the new AI functionalities and improvements.

iPhone 14 Plus

In line with its past practices, Apple is likely to discontinue the iPhone 14 Plus following the release of the iPhone 16. Last year, the company phased out the iPhone 13 Mini when the iPhone 14 was launched. The iPhone 14 Plus might follow the same path, with rumors suggesting that Apple could introduce an ‘Air’ model in the iPhone 17 series, potentially shifting away from the Plus variants.

iPhone 13

The iPhone 13, launched in 2021, is expected to be discontinued after the iPhone 16 series debut. As the oldest model currently available, it is in line for retirement as Apple continues to streamline its product offerings.

AirPods 2 and AirPods 3

Apple is also anticipated to unveil the new AirPods 4 during the September 9 event. The new AirPods are expected to be available in two variants: an entry-level model and a mid-range model. The mid-range AirPods 4 might feature active noise cancellation (ANC), while the entry-level version may not. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has suggested that the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 could be discontinued to make way for these new models.

iPhone 13 Mini

Although not mentioned explicitly in the initial reports, the iPhone 13 Mini could also be discontinued alongside other older models. With Apple focusing on larger sizes and newer features, the Mini variant might be retired to streamline the iPhone lineup.

AirPods Pro (1st Generation)

While not officially confirmed, there is speculation that the first-generation AirPods Pro may be discontinued with the introduction of the AirPods 4. This move would align with Apple’s strategy of replacing older models with new releases that offer enhanced features and performance. If you’re considering purchasing an older iPhone model or AirPods, it might be wise to wait until after the September 9 event to see which devices will no longer be available. Stay tuned for updates on Apple’s latest announcements and product releases.
