The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025, which officially kicked off in Las Vegas on Tuesday, serves as a platform for tech giants like Nvidia to unveil new products and introduce innovative gadgets, robots and more.

Even so, the show tends to be a platform for strange concepts and products as well. Here are some unusual and bizarre products unveiled this year:

Laptop with rollable screen

What was just a concept by Lenovo a few years ago has become a reality with the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable. It features a 14-inch OLED display that can unfold and expand into a 16.7-inch panel with just the press of a button or through gesture controls, offering significantly more screen space without the need for additional monitors or accessories.

Flavour enhancing electronic spoon

Japanese company Kirin Holdings unveiled an electronic spoon that makes food taste saltier. The spoon uses a small electric current to move sodium ions in the food, boosting the umami and salt flavour in low-sodium dishes.

AI-powered spice dispenserSpicer unveiled a food tech gadget that determines the ideal amount of spice for a dish based on the recipe. It also features a “freeform” function, providing greater control in case you need to adjust the recipe.

AI-powered birdbath

The Bath Pro by Birdify showcases a smart birdbath that uses AI to detect when birds are using it and captures a photo. Want to identify the species? That too is available but for a monthly subscription fee.

A robotic cat to cool coffee

Yukai Engineering’s Nékojita FuFu is a small robotic cat that attaches to mugs or bowls, blowing air at human-like intervals to cool coffee or soup. The gadget was inspired by a team leader’s struggle to cool baby food without feeling dizzy or breathless.

A charming robot for your purse

Yukai Engineering introduced Mirumi, a robot that attaches to purses and moves its head like a curious baby. Designed to evoke joyful experiences, it expresses emotions such as curiosity, bashfulness and comfort.

2024 was not the year for AI gadgets despite the generative AI fever carrying expectations sky high. This year, however, AI is set to compete for attention with gadgets, robots and vehicles that incorporate the technology.

The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES), is a key technology event where companies from across the globe present their newest and most innovative products and technologies.
